Lucca 2014 – Palazzo Pfanner

Watercolour demonstration by Barry Coombs

We gathered on the lawn in front of the city walls this morning. I had prepared a lesson/demonstration ahead of time. I was thinking about problems and challenges that had come up during our first two critiques. My watercolour ‘work sheet’ may not make sense to everyone but most of the participants found it very useful.

After the demonstration, we headed to Palazzo Pfanner to paint in the beautiful gardens. We spent most of the day there but had to leave a bit early due to preparations for a wedding reception. No problem! The group dispersed for lunch and many spent a few post-lunch hours painting and sketching from the walls above the Palazzo.

It was back to the Hotel Rex at the end of the day for our critique. As usual, there was lots of work to enjoy. Palazzo Pfanner was a very inspiring site. Tomorrow, we’re off to Pisa. If any of the buildings look crooked, I may not be too critical.
