Critique with Markham Group of Artists

I visited the Markham Group of Artists on Wednesday morning, two days ago. They had invited me to critique artwork by their members. It was a very good turnout and the quality of the work was high. Also, the variety of media and styles was impressive.

It takes courage to allow a total stranger to comment on your creative efforts. The group were very receptive to my comments and contributed good thoughts and questions thoughout the process. I had started off the morning with a provocative quote from George Bernard Shaw, who said, “If more than ten percent of the population likes a painting it should be burned, for it must be bad.” After that, just about anything I said had to sound positive.

My thanks to the group and I’m looking forward to leading a one-day workshop for them next Wednesday. The theme will be pen with watercolour. That’s me in the middle of the photo below with the current President of the MGA, Allen Class and Maureen Thompson, the Program Director.
