Tuesday Watercolour Class – Week Nine

It’s already our second-last week of Spring classes! We’ve covered a lot of different concepts and techniques this term. My Tuesday demonstration harkened back to Week Six when we discussed figure/ground relationships.

I presented a few different basic ways to add interest to a background.  Sometimes, a flat plane like the background may appear to be the same tone from one end to the other but, even if it is, we can make it more dynamic or atmospheric by varying it. This idea can be applied to other surfaces such as the top and sides of the table, as well. I used grey in my demo but you can create these wet-in-wet transitions with colour.

I think the message got across. The students came up with some very creative and exciting solutions.

Nice. I like the way you give them one very specific challenge to work with during each class. Very effective.
