More from Alberobello, Puglia

One of the special features of this plein-air painting holiday is our own bus, driven expertly by Luigi, and a full-time tour escort, Alesandra. She makes my job much easier. This morning, a few members of our group wanted to spend another day in Ostuni. Arrangements were made and off they went.

The majority of the painters stayed in Alberobello with me. I did a demonstration at a park called the Belvedere. I used an approach I call ‘shape-reading’ where I paint directly with the brush without any prior pencil drawing.

During the day, I wander about looking for painters in order to offer feedback. You never what you’ll encounter around the next corner. There’s a big festival going on here and it was a real pleasure to hear the music of Donizetti played by a fine band in an ornate bandstand.

I managed to find all of the group sooner or later. The trulli district is a real maze.

Not only was today very productive; we hadn’t looked at yesterday’s work from Ostuni. We had our critique out of doors and there was a lot of terrific work to view and discuss.
