Puglia, Italia

We’re here! Actually, we arrived in Alberobello Friday night. We had a tour of the town on Saturday morning and relaxed for the rest of the day. That evening, we enjoyed a sumptuous Welcome Dinner at our hotel, Hotel Sovrano. The trulli neighbourhoods are really something. Colours seem to jump out against the sun-soaked white walls.

I did a bit of sketching while the group had a free afternoon. I needed to understand the shapes and values before I start teaching.

Today, we went to the Baroque town of Lecce. We were given an excellent morning tour of the main sights and followed that with a hearty and delicious midday meal at a lovely restaurant. Our afternoon was spent sketching and sight-seeing.

Lecce is well-known for papier-mache. This fellow, a work in progress, was on display outside a shop.

Tomorrow, we’re all looking forward to a full day of painting in Alberobello.
