Toronto Watercolour Society – ‘Cubist’ Workshop

I spent yesterday with 16 members of the Toronto Watercolour Society. I presented a workshop called ‘Tuscan Village in Watercolour – Cubist’ Style’.

The workshop took place in a bright and spacious room at the Herbert Carnegie Arena in North York.

My sustained demonstration is on the left. I started with an atmospheric preliminary wash and the last thing I did was add shapes in black. Except for the Lamp Black everything was painted with primary colours. It is approx. 12 x 16″ and was done on a block of Arches, cold-pressed paper. I finished it today so there are a few little changes to what the group saw at the end of yesterday’s workshop.

It was an enjoyable day. The group was quite high-spirited and, as you’ll see below, very talented. A workshop like this has to be approached with an open mind and some courage and I couldn’t have had a better response.

My thanks go to Shoshana Rubens and Jenny Reid, who share the duties of Program Co-ordinator for TWS.
