Sustained Saturday – Watercolour Plus!

I set up a fairly elaborate still-life for the Saturday group yesterday. The students used viewfinders to focus on particular areas of the arrangement.

We continued to practise soft-edge techniques and brush-handling skills. I’ve shown two details of a teapot above. Each was done in three or four steps. In the demonstration below, you’ll see the lid of a copper teapot. The swatches on the left helped me plan colour and values.

This still-life demanded a lot of attention to drawing and we discussed ways to approach a fore-shortened object and, also, how to place a handle convincingly on a stein or teapot. Check out the work.

The tenacity, courage and determination of your students is to be admired. The colorful highlights in the metal pieces in the middle painting are beautiful. You must be very proud of all of them.
