Tuesday Watercolour Class – Week Nine

I found this old box and thought I’d inflict it on the students. This morning, I tried to be less literal and more spontaneous in my treatment of the subject. It started with the pencil drawing which was very basic and unrefined (see below). I placed the shapes on the sheet with rectangles so that brush-handling became very important. I used a #12 round with almost no point but it was good for broad mark-making. The demonstration below was completed in just over twenty minutes.

You have a remarkable collection of artifacts to use in your classes. The fabric behind the set is very interesting as a supporting element. Your painting is very loose and spontaneous and the color scheme is a thought provoking divergence from the originals. Nicely done in only 20 minutes!
