Sustained Saturday Watercolour Class

The Saturday regulars were back today. It’s a full day of painting as we start at 10 am and finish up at 4:30 pm. The pace is different from Tuesdays. The extra time allows for more preliminary study such as thumbnail sketches and some students will work in a larger format than usual. Some will even sacrifice precious painting time when they run to the Portugese bakery to pick up lunch.

I presented the value/glazing exercise that the Tuesday groups have been pursuing. The first step of my demo is below on the left. I cropped it and taped the edges to create a small composition.

Step one shows that I’ve developed the values in grey more than in the previous demonstrations (see earlier posts). Step two and three show how the glazing has been applied one shape at a time.

My next Sustained Saturday is on February 6. See the sidebar to the right or visit http://www.barrycoombs.ca for more information.
